You are formally invited to attend this special feature: An Open Cyber Security Discussion with Dr. Peter Bloniarz. For healthcare cyber security specialists and CISO certified professionals, this session is free* (see notation below), between 4:15 – 5pm. On June 16th, 2016, the HIMSS NYS Chapter is hosting an all-inclusive, full day event named: H.I.T. Changing the Game at Yankee Stadium, which this Open Cyber Security Discussion, led by Dr. Bloniarz, is a session within the overall agenda. This session, (which we believe is very timely given the scale of cyber security threats and attacks in healthcare today), will focus on bringing together opinions and facts in an open discussion forum.
Three years ago, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced the formation of the NYS Cyber Advisory Board and appointed Dr. Peter Bloniarz, the then Dean of the College of Computing and Information, University of Albany, to lead this Board as Executive Director and Senior Policy Advisor. He is part of a team that is working on innovative strategies to keep New Yorkers safe from cyber threats. The board advises the administration on developments in cyber security and make recommendations for protecting the State’s critical infrastructure and information systems. As Governor Cuomo described Dr. Peter Bloniarz upon his appointment:
“Peter is an experienced professional in this field, and his work will be vital in helping to shield New Yorkers, businesses and state government from cyber threats, such as identity theft and consumer fraud.”
Prior to becoming Dean, Dr. Peter Bloniarz was the Interim Vice President for Research at University of Albany. He was one of the founders and research director of the University’s award-winning Center for Technology in Government. An advocate for quality teaching at research universities, he received the SUNY Chancellor’s Medallion for Excellence in Teaching and served as interim director of the University’s Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning. He joined the computer science department at UAlbany in 1977 after receiving his doctorate from M.I.T. He is one of the University’s Collins Fellows.
